How to navigate dating life when you are struggling to find your own identity? What is worse: racial or religious prejudice?

WHAT ARE YOUR BIGGEST FEARS IN STARTING A NEW RELATIONSHIP?
Feb 2, 2021
Do you know what happens if you invite a writer, a comedian, a marriage therapist, a wellness coach, and a producer to the show and put them in one big ole bed? - you have an amazing episode of TalkItOver. And we are going to talk about the biggest fears in starting a new relationship.
Have you ever heard that the word FEAR is an acronym for False Evidence Appearing Real? Basically, there’s no threat or risk of a failure in the present but our mind reconstructs an illusion based on the past experiences that prevent us from doing what is good for us. So are fears of starting a new relationship real? Are they so powerful that they prevent you from love? Are you afraid to be misunderstood, hurt, or get disappointed? Do you have a habit of self-sabotage? Have you ever analyzed why you have these fears in the first place? Can a reasonable amount of fear be healthy?
Enough of the introduction, now let's pull back the sheets...

IS IT A DEAL-BREAKER IF SOMEONE IS LYING ON A DATING PROFILE?
Jan 19, 2021
If you have ever created a dating account, you know that most dating sites require a short story/bio to complete your profile. But must the story also be 100% true to be effective? Can lies assist you to attract the right one? Or will it be a big turn-off when the truth is revealed? Is any lie a deal-breaker? Or can a small exaggeration get a pass? What's the fine line between deception and embellishment? A Kaspersky survey of online daters from around the world found that over half of online daters lie. Why are so many people making up stories about themselves? Are dishonest daters, first of all, lying to themselves?
This hot topic raised even more questions, but we are not looking for the right answers, we just talking it over in our big ole bed, which keeps growing. Now let's pull back the sheets...

IS MARRIAGE STILL A GOAL?
Dec 8, 2020
Is marriage still seen as an essential step in a successful life? According to the Pew Research Center only about half of Americans over age 18 are married. This is down from 72% then we had 40 years ago, while divorce rates have been significantly raising especially among older Americans.
So, is Marriage still a goal? Why are men and women shying away from commitment? Is it a natural fear of rejection or being controlled? Could we see it as a positive trend? What if a delay in marriage allows young people to avoid mistakes, first learn about themselves before being responsible for another person’s life? Could it be that marriage in its traditional way is no longer the answer to the human desire for connection and belonging? Or is it still a social contract?

Imagine on top of that you are planning to invite your significant other to the family gathering for the first time? Have you discussed it with your beau? What if your celebration-styles don’t match? What if your partner doesn’t like holidays or doesn't like your family? Do you need to make a choice and spend a holiday season with your partner or your family? Ultimately, holidays are often the test for relationships — it's actually the most common time of the year for couples to break-up.

IS IT OK TO BE COURTING MORE THAN ONE PERSON?
Nov 17, 2020
Before going deep into the topic let's clarify the semantics: courting vs dating. What comes first? What term has a more serious connotation and consequences? Is it fair to your potential and yourself to be committed to monogamy from the first date? Or is dating a numbers game? At what stage of 'courting'/'dating' do two or people need to communicate their expectations and set the boundaries? Why is this conversation difficult for some? How do different attachment styles affect your dating behavior?

CAN WE DATE THROUGH POLITICAL DIFFERENCES?
Nov 10, 2020
What to do if you are dating someone who is on the opposite side of the political, cultural and/or religious spectrum? Would you date someone who didn’t share your political beliefs and voted for the "other guy"? It might have been harder to do during the current nontraditional presidency, but can we still listen to each other and cherish our shared values? Following famous JFK words: "ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country" - can two people live, love and serve their community together despite their different party affiliation? Can you talk it over and continue to cultivate and nurture the relationship? Does a deep-dive conversation always help?

Tit for Tat: who really does play the most games (innocent or otherwise) in courtship? According to some statistics, females give false names, males give a false relationship status. Females lie about their weight, guys lie about the height... Why do people lie when they are dating, especially dating online? Is dishonesty a part of human nature? Or is it a defense mechanism or a sign of insecurity? What lies are forgivable and what lies should raise red flags?

It is probably the best time to validate cliche phrases like: 'Love knows no boundaries or distance'... or 'When two or more people are meant for each other, no distance is too far, no time is too long', and no virus outbreak can break them apart. While dating or looking for love in the era of social distancing, what new measures should we take? Can we look at a new unfortunate reality as an opportunity to be creative in finding new ways to maintain relationships, communicate on a deeper level, learn to talk it over and become more intimate without physical contact?
